In this hands on labs using the Quite Universal Circuit Simulator, you will explore the signal quality possible with three alternative termination schemes: no termination, source series termination and far end parallel termination. You will be able to vary all imporant parameters and evaluate the impact on ringing noise as transmission line, driver and termination parameters are adjusted.
In the first circuit, the circuit topology is a single uniform transmission line with an input gate capacitor. The received signal for three different termination versions is simulated.
In the second circuit, the circuit topology is a branched topology, with source series termination.
In the third circuit, the impact of two types of discontinuities is explored with both source series and far end parallel termination being used. One discontinuity is a series change in impedance, while the second structure is a stub. All the parameters of each discontinuity and termination scheme can be adjusted to explore design space.
